Air Duct Sanitizing by HQ Vent in Woburn, MA

About our air duct sanitizing

Sanitizing is an add-on to air duct cleaning, not a replacement for it. Spraying a product over dust and debris does very little, so we always clean the system first.

Once the ducts are clean, we apply an EPA-registered antimicrobial that is labeled for use in HVAC duct systems. It is fogged into the ductwork while the blower runs, so it reaches the branch lines. We follow the label for dwell time and ventilation, and we give you the product's safety data sheet on request.

Sanitizing is only for bare sheet-metal ducts. The EPA notes that no biocides are registered for fiberglass duct board or fiberglass-lined ducts, so if your system has those, we will tell you and skip the treatment.

  • Pet odors that return whenever the system runs
  • The basement or ductwork had a water leak or flood
  • A lingering musty smell after the ducts were cleaned

Air Duct Sanitizing FAQs

Is duct sanitizing safe for kids and pets?

We use EPA-registered products labeled for HVAC duct use and follow the label's directions, including ventilation time. We share the safety data sheet with you before we start, and we can tell you when pets and family can return to treated areas.

Do I need duct cleaning before sanitizing?

Yes. A sanitizer can't do its job on top of dust and debris, so we only sanitize ducts we have just cleaned.

Does sanitizing remove mold?

No. If there is visible mold growth in your ducts or air handler, you need a mold assessment and remediation by a licensed professional. We will tell you if we see something that looks like growth.
